december 15, 2022 @ 12:00 e m - 1:00 e m

AI is increasingly implemented in contexts of policing and public administration for use in profiling, risk assessment or automated decision-making. This lecture outlines some of the main implications of implementing such technologies in the context of exercising public power for human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.
About the lecturer Markus Naarttijärvi:
Markus researches constitutional rights focusing on how technological advances are affecting human rights and security. In his earlier work, he has researched new technology in policing for which he won the Best Paper Award at the TILTing Perspectives conference for his paper ”Legality and Democratic Deliberation in Black Box Policing”.
Markus is currently leading and conducting a research project HYDE in which they study how the increased use of artificial intelligence in law enforcement, social welfare systems, and online moderation is affecting fundamental rights. Markus is also a part of the research project ”Cyborg Politics: A Study of Artificial Agents in Online Democratic Processes”.
